Most Common/Favourite Chickens Names

*** Most Common/Favourite Chickens Names ***

So, the Chickens are part of the family now.... so what next? "Oh yes I need to name them but what can I call them"??? Chicken keeping is becoming more and more popular and more and more people are taking up the hobby and keeping chickens particularly in their back gardens, so much so chickens are now the most popular pet in this modern day over taking our love for dogs and cats. Of course people keep chickens for different reasons.... some keep for eggs, some keep for meat, and some keep for dual purpose for both meat and eggs but the most popular is chickens being kept for pets.

Now when it comes now naming chickens most people name with a theme in mind, for example "princess layer" or "cluck norris" and so on and so forth, you get the idea and some people choose to name their chickens based on the characteristics of the birds, for example like "happy feet" (above) if they never stop or "fluffy knickers" if they are fluffy like a silkie, again you get the idea.

So, we asked our members of The Poultry Pages for the names of their chickens and pictures to see if we could find a common name or favourite names used, and this is what we found. MOST of the names used had a theme and most peoples chickens had the same names and from the pictures shared it was striking how many chickens that looked the same or was the same breed had the same name. For example..., A few members who kept Ex-battery chickens called them "henrietta" or "ginger" as shown (below) and members who kept Frizzle or Poland chickens called them "Pom Pom" or "boots", the similarities were un'canny.
